Most people have no idea where Cape Cod is located and haven’t got a clue at how large the area actually is. When telling people the location of our wedding, common questions would be “is that a suburb of Boston?” or “is that an island off the coast of Maine?” or “can I walk from one end of the Cape to the other?” In simple terms: Cape Cod is the ‘hook’ of Massachusetts and can take multiple hours to drive from one end to the other. For this reason it is important to think about travel time for your guests before booking your wedding location.
Below I have listed the different regions of Cape Cod, popular wedding venues in those areas, and highlights for each area. Stay tuned for venue spotlight accompanied by featured weddings…
Upper Cape – Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth, Mashpee: The Upper Cape’s proximity to the mainland yields slightly less-brutal traffic than elsewhere on the Cape. This region’s beaches are more intimate and most of its attractions (freshwater ponds, conservation areas, and small museums) are inland.

Mid Cape – Barnstable, Hyannis, Dennis, Yarmouth: The Mid Cape is the most heavily populated (and touristed) part of the Cape region. It’s fairly easy to get to and is filled with amazing attractions that will leave your guests satisfied with their Cape Cod experience.

Outer Cape – Provincetown, Wellfleet, Truro: Much of the Outer Cape is undeveloped, protected by the Cape Cod National Seashore. Long, dune-backed beaches appear to go on forever while trails wind through inland scrub forests. Locals will tell you that this is where “the real Cape” begins. The Outer Cape is undeniably beautiful, but the distance from the mainland may be a drawback for most out-of-town brides.

On the Edge – Plymouth and beyond: Plymouth and surrounding areas still embody the Cape Cod charm with a lower price tag and travel time. It also boasts some of the most unique and beautiful wedding venues on the Cape.
Author’s Pick: White Cliffs
Plimouth Plantation – http://www.plimoth.org/dining-functions/wedding-packages

The Islands – Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket: Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are two of America’s “storybook islands” that are not to be missed. The islands are saturated with white-sandy beaches, quaint towns, and New England charm. The islands define Cape Cod’s beauty. It can be very difficult to plan and host a wedding on these islands for out-of-town brides.
